The OVD Seniors, The Scottish Championships & Trades Bonspiel

Scottish Seniors

Better start this blog with a big Congratulations to Kay Gibb and her team on winning the Scottish Senior Ladies Championship last weekend,  down at Hamilton. She will now go on to represent Scotland at the World Senior Championships in Sochi. Kay beat the defending Scottish Champions and current World Champions Team Cannon. All at Curl Aberdeen wish Team Scotland all the best when they play out in Russia. This victory was made even more impressive as Kay didn't have a fourth player until the morning of the competition.

Kay celebrating after winning.

Here are a few familiar faces who were also playing the Scottish Seniors last week.

Scottish Championships

We had again a few members playing in this competition. In the ladies we had Rebecca Morrison playing with Team Hazel Smith, they had a good showing during the week,  beating Eve in one of their games, I better not mention the 7 they lost in the other game.

In the Mens we had Tom Brewster, David Edwards, Scott Macleod, John Penny, Derrick Sloan & Angus Dowell.  It wasn't the week they,  or we had expected for Team Brewster and Team Edwards, both teams unlucky losing close games during the week, Dave finished 3rd after the round robin, but lost to Ewan MacDonald (eventual winners, defending their title from last year) in the 3/4 game in an extra. Derrick and Angus, part of Team Mouat finished runners-up in the round robin, but lost the page 1/2 against Team Murdoch and the Semi against MacDonald.

Trades Bonspiel

Curl Aberdeen held the Ferryhill House Hotel & Fourmile House Trades Bonpsiel Saturday just past. We were below capacity with only 8 teams playing for the competition, but those 8 teams played in the spirit of the game and it was a friendly competitive competition. Alan Johnston (Donalds CC) and his team of "Insurance Buyers" came out winners of this bonpsiel. We would like to thank our sponsors for providing the prizes for this event, and also the players that entered.
