Scottish Juniors & City Open

Scottish Junior Championships

Well the Juniors have been and gone, and if you didn't come in to view some of the curling over the weekend, you certainly missed out, from Rory keeping all the Parents and teams entertained over the week, to some cracking games in both Mens and Ladies sections. Curl Aberdeen's youngest junior when the rink was opened 10 years ago (so I'm told), Rebecca Morrison topped the Ladies Round Robin, after the group games. Sadly lost out in the page system and didn't make the final. The final was contested between Team MacDonald, Skipped by Lesley Young and Team Aitken, and it was defending champions Gina Aitken who came out on top with the last stone. If you have access to Facebook here is the last stone.  In the boys section the final was contested between Kyle Waddel (3x Scottish Junior Champ, World Gold, Silver & Bronze medalist) against Team Mouat (who contains two Curl Aberdeen members in Derrick Sloan and Angus Dowell) This game came down to a last stone draw to the button, which was excellently swept there by Angus and Derrick. Again if you have access to Facebook here is the winning stone

Here are some of Rory's shenanigans keeping those visitors up to Curl Aberdeen for this event entertained, putting a smile on their faces and made to feel very welcome at our rink during the days of the finals.

aimed towards Stuart, as Paul was a lost cause

Rory even tried to open up his own betting shop at the championships, which never got off the ground, thankfully. Though he did do his homework on where they would finish and he did his work pretty well, as you will see.

Accord Aberdeen City Open

With the Juniors now gone, the focus is now on the City Open, the draw now contains both Junior Champion Teams Mouat & Aitken, so if you didn't come along to watch them, you can get a glimpse of them at this event. Other Teams in the draw are Jaap Van Dorp, Hannah Fleming, Lauren Gray, Andy Cameron, David Jones, Team Woodland, Paul Stevenson, Team RGU, Team AU, Andrew Hutcheon, Michael Opel, Ian Keron, Roy Haites, Susan Kesley (there will be plenty of Rose stocked up for this team) and the two local teams Brewster and Edwards.

As always, there is no draw for the competition, the skip from each team will be invited to draw a ball to determine which sheet, and ultimately their opposition for the first game. The event is played in a schenkel system.

here are the two sections for this.

With Rory in this competition, I wonder what odds he will give himself...... This competition looks to be full of good curling and more so a very sociable occasion, here's to another great weekend up at Curl Aberdeen.
