Scottish Mixed
Curl Aberdeen held the Scottish Mixed at the weekend, some excellent shots being made by all competitors. In the first game in Section B Graeme Penny's RGU Uni Team gave Team Brewster a really good entertaining game, these two teams are the only local teams in this competition at the weekend. I think Graeme was looking for a little pay back for his 15-1 or so gubbing at the hands of Tom in the City Open, and he nearly did it. Also competing at the weekend were last years Scottish Mixed Champions Team Kyle Smith, a few World Junior Medalists in Team Aitken, Team Bryce, Team Cameron, Team Hardie, Team Craik and Team Waddell. By the end of play on Saturday two clear teams came from Section A, Team Waddell and Team Bryce, but in Section B we had Tie-Breakers between Team Hardie and Team Craik, winners to join Team Brewster in the semi's out of the group. This game was to be played at 8.30am, not great when the clocks go forward the night before. Team Hardie came out victorious on this occasion, having lost the round robin game to Team Craik. This set up Semi-Finals of Team Hardie v Team Waddell and Team Brewster v Team Bryce. Both Semi's were close affairs with Hardie v Waddell coming down to last stone and Brewster/ Bryce Semi was even closer with two extra ends thanks to Cameron's excellent run back double on Brewster's stones in the first extra to blank, Cameron winning the second extra. Bryce v Waddell was the final, a repeat of their opening game, Waddell coming out on top in that, but that wasn't the case in the final, Bryce came out in the second end and played a nice split for his 5, leaving the score 5-2 after two ends. Bryce continued his clutch on the Mixed Championship by claiming a 1 in the third. In the end Bryce ran out winners 7-4. Congratulations Cameron and his team of Katie Murray (3rd) Bobby Lammie(2nd) Sophie Jackson (Lead), they go on to represent Scotland in the first ever World Mixed Championships in Bern, Switzerland in September.
