Curl Aberdeen Bonspiel & European Championships

Black Bottle Club Bonspiel

Curl Aberdeen held its second round of the Bonspiel on the 22nd November. We had 10 teams enter: CA Juniors, Donalds, Petroleum, Meldrum & Daviot, Ugie, Aberdeen Ladies, Granite City Ladies, Turriff, Rotary and Rubislaw. It was a competition which was played in good spirit and fun. Again there were Butteries, Soup & Sandwiches and Traybakes all laid out for the curlers playing. This round was  won by Donalds, skipped by Alan Johnston. Runners-up were Turriff skipped by our chairman Bruce Ferguson. Donalds were clear winners being the only team to win all 3 games, we had 5 teams finishing on 4 points and in a schenkel, ends do matter! Great day and a very sociable event, I do encourage the clubs to keep backing this event.

European Championships

Round One

Well the boys went and beat current world champions Thomas Ulsrud (ladies favourite, second to Scott Macleod according to Maggie Wilson) 8-6. Dave playing a "bloody awesome skinny double and stick" or as reported "a tap out and stay"in the eighth. It's a good start to a very tricky opening few games for the boys, lets hope there are more W's on the cards in this tournament! The girls sadly didn't get off to a winning start getting beat by Denmark in the first round of the round robin.

Round two

And there was more W's! Team Scotland beat the Stjerne test of Denmark in Round two of the Round Robin stage 7-5, stealing a one in the last. This game was advertised to be aired on Youtube, but that link then became private not allowing anyone to watch it. Scott Macleod had text informing in between games, but due to the Club Bonspiel I was unable to update or answer the queries being asked until later, sorry about that. The Girls play tomorrow against Latvia in the first game of the day.

Always one who doesn't tuck their shirts in
