School Festival

Friday past, Curl Aberdeen welcomed 48 students from the Stonehaven area for the second instalment of the school festival organised by the schools co-ordinator. We would like to thank again our volunteer coaches who helped run this morning. The morning for the pupils consisted of an hour on the ice then an hour playing New Age Kurling.

Due to the exams being held in the hall we turned our lounge into an indoor rink. Arthur demonstrating how it is done.

Scottish Junior Play downs

With the finals being held at Curl Aberdeen, the Junior Men were playing down in Perth to qualify to play up here for the chance of going to Worlds and represent Scotland. We had a number of members playing this weekend in a number of teams, Fraser Kingan who is up in Aberdeen studying and is in the Academy training scheme, is playing with Team Bryce (last year coached by Father Tom at the finals), Thomas Halder is in the same Academy scheme as Fraser but plays for Team Brydone, James Hay (Latest addition to Greig Henderson's Super League team) is skipping his own team, Robert Fawns playing for Team Barr, Derrick Sloan & Angus Dowell both in the Institute Scheme play for Team Mouat.

Members who have qualified for the Scottish Juniors are Derrick & Angus (Team Mouat), Fraser (Team Bryce), Thomas (Team Brydone).

If you are wondering why I haven't mentioned about the Girls play downs or can't find anything on the RCCC website, there wasn't any, they automatically go to the finals in Aberdeen, due to lack of entries.

Kinross Open

Next weekend is the next instalment of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour, with two teams from Curl Aberdeen playing, Team Brewster and two time Kinross Open champions Team Edwards. Good Luck to the guys there, with both teams vying for the the Curling Tour Title this year, and especially good luck to Team Edwards who have to play girls twice in a double round robin, their track record isn't so great against the opposite sex.

Wheelchair Triples

Congratulations to Curl Aberdeen's Richard 'Reg' Craig and Colin Gold on their silver medal in the Highland Wheelchair Triples, Inverness. Both Reg and Colin play on a Wednesday with the Aberdeen Wheelchair Club, they are always looking for new members to expand the club, and are still on the look out for a coach.
